How Influencers Use Social Media Differently...
Some people gain followers and become a social media influencer pretty easily, while others are posting day in and day out without any nibbles whatsoever.
What’s the difference between the influencer and the entrepreneurs who can’t crack the code?
The differences are in their social media planning and their ability to develop relationships. Even if we’re talking about selling the exact same product, how most entrepreneurs approach the opportunity is often quite different than how the influencer approaches it.
Let me break it down for you:
Both the entrepreneur and the influencer care about other people and want to grow their following. The difference is the social media influencer interacts with people every single day on social media. She is answering questions and replying to comments both on her own posts but also on other posts in her feed. She shares snippets of her life and is continually expanding her social circle through interaction and outreach.
The influencer also knows, through trial and error, which platforms give her the most engaged audiences, and this is where she spends her time.
Take a moment to think about which platform gives you the most engaged audience. Is that where your focus is?
Here’s the biggest mistake many entrepreneurs make that influencers don’t.
She is spread too thin across all the different platforms.
And when she's spread too thin, she isn't as effective at expanding her influence and brand. Trying to build a following on multiple platforms at once leads to overwhelm and burnout. It's not nearly as effective as having laser focus on one platform.

How to Revise Your Social Media Plan
The beauty of owning your own business is the ability to do what you want. There aren’t any hard and fast rules about which social media platforms you should use, so approach this with a plan in place.
If you’re posting random photos on Instagram and get a few likes here and there, is it really worth your time?
If you post an article once a month on LinkedIn but have an inbox filled with unanswered invitations to network, should you continue to use this platform?
First, determine where your target market hangs out and learn how to use that platform. Not only use the platform but become an expert on how to use it for YOUR type of business. This will streamline your social media marketing and you won't spend your day overwhelmed because you're trying to keep up.
If you’re aiming to attract professional clients, then LinkedIn might be your ticket.
If you’re looking for other solopreneurs or small business owners, check out Facebook.
In an influencer type niche? Instagram is perfect.
Want to market yourself locally? Alignable is a new platform to try.
Can’t fit your thoughts into 144 characters? Then drop Twitter instead of stressing about it.
Second, remember to be social. You’re much more than your business, so show that to your followers. Yes, share about your business because that’s your passion and a part of your life but share about your other passions. Trips and travels; hobbies; sports teams; movies or television shows. Let people get to know the whole you, not just the business you.
How you mix things up once you've mastered a platform is up to you. For example, you may use Facebook for business, but Twitter for your personal platform. And while there can and sometimes will be a crossover, because business blends with life, you'll find your ideal business audience is hanging out mainly in one place.
